The story is:
This festival commemorates an event that took place centuries ago when the village of Wittlich was under attack by the Huns. Walls with heavy gates kept out invaders, but on one occasion, a guard lost the iron pin that held the gate closed. He substituted the only thing available, which was a carrot, and he ran away. According to the legend, a pig ate the carrot, causing the bar to drop and the gate to swing open for the Huns to enter and sack the town. The angry townspeople took their revenge by gathering all the pigs and burning them. To this day, the pig burners’ festival is held in retribution.
It's a four day event that they do it every 3rd weekend in August. They have rides, beer, music, a crafts market, wine tasting, a pig roast, a parade, & of course food!
We were early for the parade so we decided to ride some rides before hand. We first spotted the horses so we decided to go there first which was nice b/c we ran into some of our friends who were there also.
MJ on the horse:

We were nervous about letting her do this ride on her own but she did great! She has been big into mouses lately so it was no surprise when she chose the mouse car. She told Ben that she wanted to go again so we let her.
Look at the smile on her face:
Here's some shots form the parade:

I decided to take MJ on the next ride:
She wanted to go again, but talked her out of it & went in search of more fun things to do.

Ben & MJ at the fun house:
As soon as came into town Ben knew he wanted to ride this HUGE Ferris wheel he read about. I sent MJ w/ his as I tried to take pictures. Every time I tried to get a shot someone got in my way or the were turn the other way.

We found some pig statues as we were making our way out. These shots for you mom & Mollie:
